MAGISTRATE’S COURT
MONDAY, AUGUST 10. (Before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M.) Several first offenders, for being on licensed premises after hours, were ordered to pay costs, seven shillings. Two first offending inebriates were convicted and discharged. A first offender, for being drunk in the railway station at Dunollie, was fined ton shillings and costs. Daniel McLeod who was charged with being on licensed premises after hours, stated that he went into the hotel to see a man about a horse. His Worship, however, did not accept defendant’s excuse, and ordered him to pay costs, seven shillings. John L. Tennent was charged that o.u June 16th at Hokitika, being the driver of a motor car, he did fail to stop his car before coming in contact with the railway line. Defendant pleaded guilty, nnd was fined five shillings and ordered to pay costs.
