IN CANTERBURY. UHRISTUHI RCII, August 10. Snow fell in the city :i.i<l suburbs Inst evening, aud there was a thick coating nt 7 n.m., but a thaw folloy cd. LATER. The weather cleared nt 10 o'clock this morning, nnd to-night is fine, with the promise of a heavy frost. Over three inches of rain fell in the city in three days, and nearly <loub*o that amount in the country districts. Slips in Lyttelton have caused very much damage, while some cf the Peninsula roads are blocked, through earth slides. At Heathcote, the early potato crop was washed out of the ground. The first six days of August wcro the warmest o.i record since 1905. From the country losses of lambs and sheep ai o reported.
