The Prime Minister paid ~ firing visit to Eketahuna on Saundnv ;.i-d opened Maknkahi Bridge. He was enthusiastically received. He said that the Government was glad to see works being done which would assist tho primary producer. The Govern ment contribution to the bridge might be considered small, but it was big enough to enable the Borough to have the work carried out. As f'"aiicos became stronger, it -was possible that in future the Highways Board would be able to extend assistance to many roads in boroughs that were part of main highways. The road which the bridge linked up was nor a. highway, but it was an important feeder for railways. Government am! Highways Boards were eons deling very closely the question of road main tenancy, and construction. He re-cog-nised that if the railways were gmng to get business, roads and railways must be linked up. so that the b st possible service could be. given to the community. The Departments were out to do 'that, find give to the peoule a railway service that would become in dispen sible.
