From Commissioner of Crown Lands re expenditure of thirds.—Crs O’Regan and Bell moved that-if Air Betts is prepared to dedicate a road through his property. the Council spend “thirds” thereon. A division resulted as follows; For. Crs Bell, O’Regan. Byrne, and Carroll; against, Crs. Ale. Vicar, Blackadder, Watson and the Chairman. Giving his casting vote against it, the Chairman declared th<‘ motion lost. Cr McVicar moved and Cr Watson seconded that Mr Betts be informed that the Council considers it illegal to spend the “thirds” where he desires. An amendment by Crs Bell and O’Regan was carried that application be made to the Alinister for permission to spend the “thirds’* in giving access to Betts’ sections. The voting was: For amendment: Crs Bell. O’Regan, Byrne, Carroll and Auld; against: Crs AlcV'icar, Watson and Blackadder. Tenders for Byrne’s Road were open- | ed as follows: A. I). Alarsden, £105: E. Loughnan, £140; P. J. Alolloy, £llB 10s. The engineer’s estimate was £lO2 10s. Crs Watson and Byrne proposed the acceptance of A. D. Alars. den’s tender. Cr Carroll’s amendment to accept P. J. Alolloy’s tender was not seconded, and the motion was carried. Tenders for Blackwater South Road (Engineer’s estimate, £541) were opened as follows: C. Herlihy and party, £ll 15s per chain; Chandler and Cook, £l3 18s per chain; J. P. Loughnan £557; P. J. Alolloy £5OB.
