GREY VALLEY BRANCH. r q- Begg (Vice-President) presided at the ordinary meeting on Saturday, apologising for the absence of Air W. Clayton (President), at a c.gu_ fcrence being held between the KaiL way Department, the Farmers’ Union, the Westland County Council, and Messrs Stuart and Chapman regarding railway facilities in South AV estland. A letter was received from Air G. Aloss, Secretary of the Tot.ara Flat Sale Yards Coy., stating he was issuing a balance sheet, and calling a meeting of shareholders to consider tin* advisability of erecting yards. Mr J. O’Aleara moved and Air AV. T. Begg seconded that the Railway Department be asked to put in a siding at the Greymouth Abattoirs, which would obviate the necessity to drive stock through the town; also that the (.reyjnouh Borough Council be communicated with on the matter. —Carried. Resolved on the motion of Alessrs A. Ale Donnell and J. O’Aleara that the Railway Department be asked to convert the back-shunt at Totara Flat into a roop. Resolved on the motion of Alessrs A. McDonnell and J. Brown that the Secretary write the Grey Council regarding the fact of their last two balance sheets being “tagged” with reference to travelling expenses, and asking if the Council had remedied any excess in travelling expenses; or, if not, whether the Council intends to
do so. It was stated that the amount challenged was over £4OO in both years. Mr T. Y. Scales was admitted as a member of the Union on the motion ol Messrs Begg' and Doig.
