MILLERTON THISTLE v. DENNIS TON. The above teams met in a League fixture at Millerton on Sunday, before a good crowd of spectators, considering the hurricane that was blowing across the rec. The following were the teams -Thistle:—Smith, Herd. Nairn, Ross, Sciirr. McArthur, Ormond, Anderson, Phillips W. White, G. White,. —Dennisfnn — Duffy, Edmonds, Smalley, Morrow, Morrison, Marshall. Trotter, McKearman, Black, K< i rr. Forrester. Smalley won the toss and 'I histle kicked off facing the breeze. It was quit? evident from the start that good foot ball -was out of th<> question, as the players were hardly able to sta*nd up against the clouds of dust sweeping across the field. In fact, the ball was more often half way down to Granity : than it was on the field. Denniston forv ■■■■ 1 combined badly, and did »not make good use of what chances did come their way; but they kept Thistle on the defence and on the alert. Trotter tried run 0,1 1 ,,s OW, L ail< l rutling in for goal when Nairn brought him to the ground. The referee promptly awarded Denniston a penalty kirk, trotter took the kick, but put it yards past the post. Thistle tried hard to make their way to Denniston’s goal but Duffy and Co., did not get severely tested. During the remainider of this half Denniston had quite- a few pops at goal, but Erie Smith was letting nothing slip. Half time arrived with no scoring. When the second spell started, the wind was falling back a little. Thistle begawi to ]>ress, but Den niston’s defence was steady and sure. Edmonds and Smalley kicked an heaed in good style. Morrison got through a lot of work with his head and W. White took some looking after. After some mid-field play . White had a dive for goal from well out. Duffy seemed to set himself to catch the. ball and then to draw back, and allow it a clear road into the net, to the delight of the Thistle supporters, and to the dismay of the Dennistonites. It was without a doubt a gift goal. Play brightened uj> now, and Denniston tried hard to even things up. Trotter was again going through on his own when Sour brought him to the ground just outside the penalty area. The referee

cautioned Seur for his action. Denniston made little headway from the free kick, and play travelled back to Denniston quarters. Anderson and Ormond were putting in some nice touches on Thistle’s right wing, and by keeping the ball on the floor, made a good deal of headway. They were the only pair

on view that showed any combination Bmalley and ALarshall had plenty to do to Hold this wing, but they came out of the fray with every credit, though Marshall was inclined to w'a»nder out of his place at times. Give and take play followed till the final whistle’ sounded, Denniston thus receiving their first defeat of the season.
