MEAT PACKERS’ TRADING. MONOPOLY DANGER. (Received April 25 at 5.5 p.m.') WASHINGTON/ April 23. A decree, ordering the “Big Five” meat packers of Chicago to divest them selves of all their holdings outside the meat business, as cabled on 27th February, 1920, was to-day suspended by the District of Columbia Supremo Court. The decree xvas not declared void, but is xvas suspended in its operation indefinitely. This is due to a loss suffered by certain Californian canneries, xvhieh had contractual relations with the packers. The Department of .Tustiv“ in 1920 obtained the decree under the Anti-Trust laws, the Department alleging restraint of trade, which xvas putting the control virtually of the entire food supply of the United States into the hands of the meat packers. The suspension of the decree permits the packers noxx- to deal in butter eggs, and multitudinous other food products, and to participate in other circulated businesses.
