(Our Own Correspondent). Personal. CHRISTCHURCH, April 23. Air and Mrs I’. Beck, and Miss Beck, of Greymonth, are visiting Christchurch. Mr B. R. Sword, Assistant ’Superintendent of South Island Railways, left yesterday for Greymouth. Ho will return with Mrs Sword and take up his residence in Christchurch. Miss Elsie Johnston, of Greymouth, has taken up her residence at the Knritano Baby Hospital, Christ chi.’i ih, where she. will be a member of the staff. Mr W? Meldrum. AFr Archer had all the better of it, as he is an accomplished debater, and put. up much the better arguments. The public voted him ihe winner. The Weather. Christchurch has had fairly decent weather since the storm of last week, though winter has now set in. The days are chilly and overcast, but fine weather is forecasted for the next few days. Ft is hoped that it will keep fine for the holiday at the end of the week, as many are taking advantage of its occurring at the week-end to spend a couple of days away from the city. Infantile Paralysis. With the waning of ihe infant-lo paralysis epidemic, the secondary schools have re-opened in Christchurch, and have pructic.nlly full rolls of pup iis. As the curriculums for the year, have been upset by the long vacations, many of them are holding sessions on Staturday mornings and are extending the school day by an hour. Wedding. The wedding was celebrated nt St. .Andrew’s Church yesterday by the Rev. Norman Webster, of AVinifred Mabel, only daughter of AFr and Airs 11. S. Stuart. Waiuta. AVestland, to Eoslie Harold, eldest son of Air ana Airs Burgess, Christchurch. 'i*he bride, who was given away ->y her mother, wore a pretty frock of ivory ciepe-de-chine, with a full skirt, and trimmed with pearls. Her embroid ered vol I was arranged from a wreath of’ orange blossoms, and she carried

a bouquet of white flowers. She was attended by Aliss Clare Brown, AVellington, vho were a girlish frock of white union over silk, ami a small, close-fitting black hat. AF:ss Grace Burgess also attended, wearing a simple frock of turquoise-blue crepe-de-chine, with ostrich feather trimming. and a black picture hat. Roth maids car vied bouquets of bronze chrysanthemums. Mr Francis G. Burgess was best man, and Air Gordon Burgess was groomsman. Following the ceremony, a recepL.ii was hold at Dixieland. Afrs Stimri. who Tcccived the guests, wore a n:o) Costume braided In fawn, and a b’m.-k hat with white esproc trimmings. Airs Burgess wore a black satm marocain frock and a black hat. 'When leaving for their wedding trip, the brido travelled in a. navy-blue coiifrock trimmed with grey, and a. grey georgette hat.
