La wry, S.M., delivered reserved judgment in the case whore Colin Campbell. licens.oe of the Recreation Hotel w. r s charged with soiling liquor after hr.r rs on the evening of March LI th last . The case was heard Ihe previous day. and iho evidence showed 11 at a boarder in th? hotel, by name of Armstrong, brought some n on into iho house, ostensibly for tin* purpose of having a game of cards. Drinks wore ordered, however, and immediately after they wore brought in. the police entered. In delivering judgment, His Worship held that there was no evidence to convict the licensee. It had been clearly proved that the man Armstrong had brought the men into the hotel, and they were therefore his guests. His Worship was also satisfied that Armstrong had ordcrc-i and paid for the drinks. The case against iho licensee would therefore be dismissed. The evidence of the men was, however, contradictory. Tt had been stated that the men had come into the hotel Io play cards. The hoarder had not only removed his coot. out had also taken off his hoots. Neither of the nt-hcr men. however, had oven taken off his overcoat, and such being the ease, it did not appear to His Worslvp that they were there for iho purpose of playing cards. Moreovp”, their statements did not correspond. Smith, who was a third offender, would be fined £2 and costs. The other man, a first offender. would he fin ml ICs and costs. Mr ,T. W.
