A particularly mean and contemptible theft was committed at the Fair vlii. l was held at the Greymouth School on Wednesday afternoon, in aid of a heath*g system, for the school when a num ber of garments in the needlework sec. tion wore stolen. Prior to the conclusion of the concert in the Opera House last night, the Chairman of the School Committee (Mr J Tennent) made reference to the dispicahle act, as “contemptible in the extreme. ’ Continuing, Mr Tennent said that a person who would commit a theft at such a function would “steal a : ehoolbov’s dinner” or “leave an infant out in the cold to freeze.” Tn conclusion, Mr Tennent said that if the person had any decency he (or she) would forward to the headmaster the sum of £2 10s ami an anonymous letter.
