Mr A. T. Donnelly, Crown Prosecutor, of Christchurch, is visiting Greymouth .. A Reuter’s cablegram from New York announced the death of Mr Edward Henry Peple, playwright, aged fifty-five. , Miss M. O’Malley, of Ikamatua, will leave 'Wellington for a holiday at. San Francisco, by the Tahiti, on August 19. Major Frank Wallace, accompanied by Mrs Wallace, head of the Salvation Army, Christchurch Divison, will arrive in Greymouth on Saturday. Bev. Brother Denis, Provincial of the Marist Brothers, is at present visiting Greymouth. He is the guest of the Rev. Brother Herbert. A Sydney cablegram records the death of Air A. J. Mr-Cabe, the noted footballer, who was a member of the famous Wallabies team. Mr and Mrs .1. L. Morgan, formerly of Greymouth, who are spending a few days in Christchurch, will leave for Australia by the Maheno, leaving Wellington on August 13. Air Standage, manager of the Greymouth branch of the Bank of N w Zealand, has been promoted 1o be manager of the Bank’s Ashburton branch. Air E. A. Aialloeh, of the Pu* lie Trust Office, Greymouth. has received notice of his' transfer on promotion to Hawera . He will be succeeded by Air G. .I. O’Reilly, of Christchurch. Air Jeremiah Kennedy, a native oi Addison’s ITut, who served a term in the late war, has recently relumed to Buller. He Ixs now taken up a posi tion as leading blacksmith at Watson’s mill at Ngakawau. Air Neil Mouat, the West Coast Bug bv League representative, will represent New Zealand in the tests to be played against the English touring bam. Nine forwards have been selected in the trials, three of whom will be eliminated prior to the first test. If Air Mouat does not play m Ihe first test, then he is certain to don the jersev in the second. Mr W. P. Payne, Stationmaster af Hokitika, has received notice oi his transfer to the Auckland passenger stair. Mr w. Craw, assistant relieving oflieer nt Christ church will replace him. In literary circles he will also be missed. The funeral of the late James Hig son took place at the Karoro Cemetery yesterday. All the mines were idle, and the Schools at Kunanga closed. The train bearing the body of the deceased, conveyed a large number of Rewanui, Dunollie and Ruuanga residents, as well as a large contingent of State miners, residing in Greymouth, to Karoro. The funeral procession to the Cemetery was lengthy, and was led by members of the Druids’ Lodge. Rev. O. R. Walkey performed the funeral services, and the Druidic service was read by T’.D.P. Brother W. Murray.,

Many friends will regret to learn of the death of Mr Robert Wilson, a wellknown resident of Runangn, who passed away at his residence yesterday afternoon, after a short illness, at five o’clock. Deceased, who was a native of Cumberland, England, had been a resident‘of the West Coast for thirty years past, being engaged throughout that time in the mining industry at the collieries at Brunner and at Rewanui and Dunollie. He was 52 years of ao-e. It is only nine months since the death of his wife, and a family of two girls rind three boys are left to mourn their loss, in which they will have general sympathy. The late Mt M ilson, who took an interest in trotting horses, was a popular citizen, esteemed bv all who knew him.
