REEFTON COAL

good canterbury demand. There appears to be very little doubt that Reefton will benefit greatly with through railage to Christchurch. Orders for Reefton coal arc now coming in faster than they can be filled, and io some eases orders to be turned down. The Reefton Coal Company are putting out over 100 tons a dav and ■’the mine is not working up to" ’ its full capacity. The Murray Creek Mine will commence the erection of an aerial tram at an early date for the transport of coal from the mine to the Reefton Coal Company’s tramline. This will do away with the old svstem of carting with horses, and bo the means of placing some of the finest household coal in the Dominion on the market. Murray Creek has about 00 000 tons of coal in pillars. Learmont and Morris have had orders for more eoal than they can supply, and Christchurch merchants are well pleased with tho quality of the eoal from this mine. More Reefton eoal could be sent through the hill if rolling stock were available, but until the new rolling stock comes from the other side, the railway authorities have to do the best with what they have at present.
