FARMERS’ UNION

Ngahere Branch A meeting of tho above union was held in the Mawheraiti Schoolroom, Mr J. P. Fitzgerald (vice-president) in the chair. The minutes of tho previous meeting were read and comfirmed, on the motion of Messrs I). Ross and J. Somerville. The inward correspondence was received, and the outward corres pondence approved of on the motion of Messrs J. McLennan and R. Bryne. The secretary’s action in writing Mr 11. E. Holland, M.P., re the State farm at Waimunga, asking him to bring this matter before Parliament, was endorsed on the motion of Messrs D. Ross and J Somerville; also his writing to Messrs Jas. O’Brien and R. Hudson, M.P.s., on the same subject. On the motion of Messrs A. Doig and Fitzgerald, the secretary was instructed to write the District Engineer of Railways, drawing his attention to the dangerous state of tho crossing at Mr J. O’Mera’s, Totara Flat, on the Main Grey Road, and asking that cattle stops be put in on the north side to prevent cattle getting on to the culvert. It was pointed out that recently Mr W. Clayton had to destroy a bullock that attempted to cross the culvert on the sleepers, and had it not been early in the afternoon, a serious accident might have happened with the Reefton-Grey train, and that with the assistance of the railway surfacemen, some of the sleepers had to be removed before the block could be removed. It was moved by Mr J. Somerville and seconded by Mr R. Byrne that the secretary write tho Minister of Public Works asking for a further grant of ITOOO to complete the Burton Creek Roa d.—Carried. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr D. Ross and Mr J. Fitzgerald, that the Inangahua County Council be written to, pointing out the dangerous state of a culvert over Perotti’s Water Race on Byrne Bros.’ Road, also asking the County Council to repair the first mile of this road. It was moved by Mr A. Doig and seconded by Mr J. McLennan that the secretary write Mr 11. Holland, M.P., re road to Messrs Byrne Bros.’ and J. Somerville’s property, and asking him to bring this matter before Parliament.—Carried. On the motion of Messrs J. McLennan and A. Doig, Mr Jock Watt and Mr C. Fanslowe were admitted as members of the union. It was resolved the next meeting be held at Totara Flat.
