Meeting of Grey Club. SUNDAY BOWLS QUESTION. The annual meeting of the Greymouth Bowling Club was held last night, Mr D. Tennent being in the chair.. The Chairman said they had a credit balance of £7B and they would be able to pay .about 6/8 in the £ off their debt. Last year they reduced the debt from £3OO to £2OO. He thanked members for the loyalty they had shown him as President. Every man in the club had done his best for tho club. He then presented Mr F. Wise with the Championship Singles Shield, and also with the President’s special trophy. Messrs F. Wise and P. A. Black, as winners of the Championship Fails, were presented with tho trophies for that section. Mr Wise thanked the President on behalf of his skip and himself for tho Shield and the brooches. Mr Steer was nominated as Chairman. Mr Steer said ho was not desirous of taking tho Presidency again this year; he did not wish to monopolise the position. No other nominations being received he was elected. Mr Tennent said that during the coming year the President would have a more strenuous term than in th.' past. The tunnel would bring to th - green more players and greatly divers ified play. lie congratulated Mr Steer on his election. Mr Steer thanked members for electing him. Tho tunnel was going to bring many new players to tho green and the tournaments would be held mi February. The Runauga Club would soon start operations, too, and all would tend to make the year busy. lie would ask for the support of all members. He then moved a hearty vote of thanks to the past President. He referred to the great work done by Mrs Tennent and her daughters in past years. The vote was carried with acclamation. Mr Tennent thanked them for the vote of thanks. What his wife :nd daughters had done had been greatly due to the assistance given them by the wives and daughters of other members. He had enjoyed being their President and thanked them for tho vote of thanks. Mr George Harker was appointed vice-President, and Mr D. McKay, Secret:’ ry-Treasurer. The following centre was elected: — Messrs Tennent, Graham, Cochrane, Scott, Blair and Lawn. Mr J. Ring was appointed delegate to the West Coast Centro. Mr Topliss thought that two rinks: should be picked out to represent Grey- . mouth at the tournament. He moved in that direction as a i -oinmcndation . to the Centre. Tho mold'll was second- ’ cd nnd carried. Mr Tennent moved a recommendation to the incoming committee, that Wednesday men meet Wednesday mor, and Saturday men meet Saturday men. This was seconded and carried. A recommendation to the incoming committee that a woman bo paid to look after the afternoon tea was car-' tied. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr W. Blair, for his services as secretary during the absence of Mr D. McKay in Australia, was carried with acclamation. The Committee were further recommended to have the green seen to and the grounds beautified. The question of Sunday bowls was brought up by Mr W. Fletcher, who said that bowls was played on Sunday in other places, and why not in Greyniouth? It was a burning question on which members felt strongly. All manner of games were now played on Sunday, and he thought that bowls/Should be allowed. He gave notice of motion that a special meeting be called in the near future at which the question of Sunday bowls be discussed. Mr Reynolds suggested that it be, a recommendation to the incoming Committee. That would allow for the mat tor’s being discussed at once. The Chairman said tho notice of motion would have to be considered. They would have to leave the matter until the special meeting.
