Air YVilliam Henry Parfitt, who has been elected uiioppos-ed to the Alayoral chair of Greymouth, was born at No Town, in the Grey Valley, and has spent the greater part of his active lite on the Coast. Th-e first portion of

his education was received at the No Town State School. Later he came to Greymouth, and his education was con- * tinned at the Greymouth District High : School. H-e completed at Wanganui • College. ±Tom boyhood days, Air. Parfitt was associated with sport, and played football for a now defunct club called The Roses. He also distinguish- < ed himself as a runner at various ath- ] letic meetings. He first contested the < Borough Council elections in 1914. when ] he was returned, being then fourth on the list, lu .1916 he “topped thepoil’’ at th-e Borough elections, ami was then appointed Deputy-Mayor, and mis held ihat position cumtinuously since. in ' 1914 also he was elected to the Grey- : mouth School Committee, and was on 1 that body for six years, holding the 1 position uf chairman for part of that ' time. For six years he has been a . member of the Hospital Board. He also had a scat on the Fire Board, being the Borough representative on that body. About 15 months ago he was 1 appointed to the Board of Governors oi the Greymouth Technical High School. ’ and is still in that position. He is a 1 steward of the Greymouth Jockey Club and is president of the St. John Am- , bulance Association. RUNANGA ELECTIONS. There being only the requisite number of candidates nominated there will be no election for scats on the Kanauga Borough Council. The following candidates have been elected unopposed::—Joseph Falcon Pattinson (Mayor), David Swallow, Robert McTaggart. Robert Gore. John Duggan, Sidney Wilfred Alorris, ami Henry Gilligan The combined Boroughs of Runanga and Brunner have elected (unopposed) 1 Mr Frederick Williams to the Grey m"uth Hospital Board. BRUNNER BOROUGH. Brunner has two aspirants for Alayoral honours, the present Alayor (Air. F. Williams) and Air Frederick Bous fridge, a candidate. For the six seats on the Borough Council there have been eleven nominations, as follows —North Ward: Win. Chetwynd, YVm. Robinson and Francis Glen. East Ward: Robert Nichol. Thomas Pryor. Thomas Smithers, and iThomas Harper. South Ward: Daniel Geoghegan, Sidn-ey Fry. -lock ick and Junies Hill. The Brunner Ratepayers’ Associa tion has selected the following camb dates to cuntest the Borough elections there: —Mayor: F. F. Boustridge; Councillors: North Ward: W. J. Robinson and W. Chetwynd. Spiers has been elected unopposed to the Westland Hospital Board as representative of the combined Boroughs of Ross and Kumara. HOKITIKA BOARD. The sitting Mayor (Air George Perry) was returned unopposed to the position. Fourteen candidates have been nominated for the nine seats on the Borough Council. They are: —H. M. Coulson. D J. Evans, G. H. Blank, G. A. A. Heinz. J. King. W. Jeffries, A E. Elcock, J. Lloyd. G. L. McCallum, W. D. Mackay, Andrew Parkhill, R. F. Perham, G. _A. Wood, and A. G_ Pilkington, Alessrs G. A. Blank and J. J. Breeze were elected unopposed to the Westland Hospital Board. Messrs G. A. Wood, W. Zeigler and J. Lloyd were elected to seats on the Hokitika Harbour Board. BLENHEIM. BLENHEIM. April 19. William Carr and Edward Stone Parker (sitting Mayor) have been nominated for the Blenheim Mayoralty. There are 13 candidates for nine seats on the Borough Council. NORTH CANTERBURY. CHRISTCHURCH, April 19. For Riccarton, A. I). Ford was re elected as Mayor. Ton were nominated for eight seats on the council. Tor New Brighton Mayoralty, Mr J Gamble was re-elected. There are 13 candidates for the nine council seats, including one woman. For the Sumner Mayoralty, W. H. Nicholson and T. E. Whitfield have been nominated. Thirteen candidates contest eight borough council sears. For the Kaiapoi Mayoralty, J. W. Barnard and IL Macintosh are nominated. There are 13 nominations for the nine council seats. OAMARU NOMINATIONS. OAMARU, April 19. There are two nominees for the Oamaru Alayoralty, Mr James MeDiarmid i present Mayor ) and Councillor Douald Miller. lor twelve seats on the Council fourteen are nominated. For the Harbour Board, Messrs J. AL Brown, E. Lane, C. J. Marshall and R. Milligan wore elected unopposed. For the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, Messrs A. Fraser, and G. L. Grenfell were elected.
