(Our Own Correspondent). Last night Mr “Pussyfoot” Jolinn spoke at the Opera House to a full ousc, Mr M. Ayrton presiding. His ddress was on the lines of that at reymouth, dealing with. Wilson, travelling representative for Maling and Co., Ltd., of Christchurch, is in town; and reports good business is being done with the motor tyres, and accessories, for which this firm are agents. However, I understand that this will be Air Wilson's last trip'to the Coast, as he has received a transfer to a southern province. His many friends here, will wish him success in the new territory, to which he is going. Two North Island farmers were viewing the Southern Alps from the Hokitika wharf a day or two ngo, and one was hoard to remark: “I always heard it said there were heaps of land on the AVcst Coast, and there is no doubt about it!” Owing to the additional buildings going up in suburban localities, the Hokitika Gas Company has found it necessary to increase the mains for gas* supply in the (‘astern part ol the town. » A new main is to be laid from the works to Sale Street to augment the gas service for .Hampden Street, and a new service line to be Laid down in Rolleston Street. The new main to Sale Street is destined to form the

base of a fresh service by way of Park Street to Fitzherbcrt Street, and will greatly augment the gas supply in that quarter. The works are now being undertaken. CYCLING. The Hokitika. Athletic and Cycling Club’s annual meeting was presided over by Air D. J. Evans. The report and balance sheet was read and adopted. Resolved that a road race be held annually for the Boomerang Challenge Cup, first one to take place probably in January. It was decided upon to join in with the Caledonian Society on New Year ’« Day and assist in running the athletic events of their sports meeting.
