REDUCTION DEFEATED
[A. and N.Z. Cable Aisedation.] MELBOURNE, October JI. In the Federal House of Representa- ■ fives, a Bill for reducing members 1 , salaries by £2OO was read the first time. Mr \\ . M. Hughes is introducing a Bill providing for the appointment of a. Board of Directors to control the Commonwealth Line of Steamers, which will be taken out of political control and vested in the Board. The profits I up to 10 per cent, will go to a reserve, fund, and above that to the consolidated revenue. MELBOURNE, October 12. In the House of Representatives, the second reading of the Reduction of Salaries Bill was defeated by 36 votes to 25.
