FARMERS’ UNION.

NGAHERE BRANCH. A meeting of the Ngahere Branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held at Ngahere on the 6th inst. In the absence of the president, the chair was taken by Mr 11. Chilton. Owing to the extreme inclemency of the weather the attendance was limited. Mr C. L. Dalgleish, Government Fields Instructor, was present, and in view of the paucity of atteudance, it was decided to have a conversational discussion in lieu of the intended lecture. The subject of grasses and clovers especially, and their suitability or otherwise to different classes of soil, were discussed with Mr Dalgleish. The members present all took part in the discussion, and recounted their experiences of various species of grasses, etc., in their adaptability to different types of country. Mr Dalgleish emphasised the point that, in sowing terrace land, mixtures of seed should be used which would stand the harder conditions, even though they might be only of second-class feed standard. A hearty vote of thanks to, and appreciation of, Mr Dalgleish’ courtesy in attending under such untoward weather conditions as prevailed, was carried on the motion of Mr James Hay, seconded by Mr AV. Ross, and the meeting terminated.
