RACING AND TROTTING.

Yesterday three horses were scratched from C.J.C. Winter Cup. Lord Desmond and Rose of Athens were scratched at 9 o’clock. Battle Knight was withdrawn from the Winter Cup at 11.25 a.m. The top weights in the Winter Cup are not badly treated, there being only two stone between them and the limit ones. Royal Star and Ngata, if they win, w’ill create a new precedant, as the Cup has never been won with 10.13, while only six wins with 10 stone are recorded in 23 ye:irs. Roseday with lOst 61b seems more likely than Golden Bubble, and Listening Post with the same weight. Dainty Step (10.5) and Royal Box (10.4) will be well supported. There are 50 below" 10 stone. Demos (9.13) will see the distance well, while other good ones are Wrangle (9.7), Whipping Boy (9.8), Passionless and Mort Avis (9.1). A Sydney wire states The Hawk has been scratched for the Epsom and Aletropolitan Handicaps. South Island horses won 9 out of 24 races at the Wellington meeting recently. Donoghue, England’s most popular jockey, got £5,500 for winning on Capt: in Cuttie in the Epsom Derby. At Addington the other morning trotters Bundaberg and Dillon S. were companions over a two-mile journey and finished on terms. Stormy did two miles well. Wandiligong made several circuits evenly, looking well. Pedro Pronto did two miles in good style. Sympathy is going finely. Bellfashion is moving freely. Coil, Star Queen, and Prince Athol showed a useful turn of speed over a mile. The pace was solid, and there w: s little between them at the finish. General Link (A. Fleming) and Locanda Dillon (J. Shaw) worked in company over a mile and a-half, the last eight furlongs being done in excellent time. There was little between Glen Aiavis : nd Waipero at the end of a stronglyrun mile.

The following additional candidates have been approved by the Liberal Labour Barty and will receive Mr Milford’s support at the general election: Feilding, Air Richard Cobbe (who will oppose the Hon I). 11. Guthrie): Bahiatua, Air A. E. Ransom (who will oppose Air A. AlcNieol, ALP.,); o/aki. Air G. H. AlcChire (who will oppose Air AV. 11. Field, ALP.,); Hastings, Air Gilbert AlcKay; Gisborne. Air Georg' Wildish. Look out for special cut price-list this week. All our now and up-to-date stock marked down regardless ol •ost. We must effect a complete clearance to make room for our sum mor goods. Our special cut sale starts on Saturday, July 15.
