BOCCEB A Westland competition game between the Greymouth and Blackball Clubs was played on the Rec. on Saturday last. The Grey Club fielded their strongest side, which included five of the players that represented Westland against the Aussies, whilst Blackball relied on their usual eleven. The game itself, was very interesting, Greymouth playing the prettiest football and Blackball relying on elose tackling and strong forward rushes. Blackball led at half-time by one goal (scored by F. Clarke) to nil. In the second spell Blackball assumed the upper hand and kept Bennett, in the Grey goal, fully employed. F. Clarke added two more goals, the final scores being Blackball 3, Greymouth 0. For the winners F. Clarke, Croft, Balderstone, and Penman were prominent throughout. The home team s best were Bennett, Smith, Howie, AlcNicol, and Crompton. Air M. Bond refereed efficiently. The Moonlight v. Runanga match was played at Blackball on July 16, before a good crowd. Aloonlight fielded a weak team, being minus Hogg, Quibell and Jolly. This necessitated playing men in unaccustomed positions. Runanga were at full strength, Kinsey re-rip-pearing after a fairly long absence through injuries. Runanga won by four goals to one. Whilst Runanga deserved their win on the day’s play, they were favoured by the fortunes of the game considerably. Patterson opened the scoring for Runanga, McDonald equalising for Moonlight, the scores at half-time being, Runanga 1, Aloonlight I. In the second half, Runanga displayed nice combination, goals being added by Gray (2) and Patterson. Aloonlight, who missed several easy chances, failed to respond. For Runanga I atterson, Gray, Kinsey, Barnes and Richmond played finely. T. McNicol for Moonlight was the best forward on the ground. Other Aloonlight players to display good form were, Bond, J. MeNieol, T. AlcNicol and Hall. Air 11. Ritchie was referee.
