Unemployment in Taranaki is stated by its M.P. to be acute-. Only one man out of 17 applicants for work last week, could bo placed by the Labour Bureau. Hochstetler Sluicing Co. intend running operations on a new faco at German Gully. In the North Island the whitebait season has open-ed already, a month earlier than last year, and sales are being made at Auckland. At Ngahero on Friday evening a successful concert in aid o fthe Catholic Church Fund was participated in by St. Columba Glee Club. A Dargaville telegram states A. V. Sunni, the Indian who holds the Australasian light weight wrestling championship, defeated Theo. Gudding, N. Z. light-heavy champion. The latest Libertri candidates announced are:—For Feilding, Richard Cobbe; for Pahiatua, A. S. Ransom; for Otaki, Mr G. H. McClure; for Hastings, Gilbert McKay; and for Gisborne, Geogre Wildish. Tn Parliament Mr H. E. Holland has announced his intention of exposing the Liberal Party’s recent desire for an understanding with Labour at the erections, in consequence of Mr Wilford’s denying his party was ever ready to enter such an understanding. ,
