The League games during the weekend proved to be of tin* first-class order, and some great and exciting contests were witnessed. RUNANGA (3) v. BLACKBALL (2). Flaying at Blackball yesterday, before a large crowd of spectators, the Runanga seniors, after a hotly- contested game, in which Blackball were distinctly unlucky, succeeded in defeating the home team by three points to two; a try by Freeman and a goal by Stcnhouse making up the scores. The points were scored in the first half, both sides setting up a solid defence in flic second half. For Runanga, Finn, Cast, and Alanderson (backs), and Parsonage, Anderson and W. McTaggart in the forwards were prominent whilst, for Blackball, Kells, Smith ami Todd (backs) and Neilson, Long and Skelton (forwards) were conspicuous. Mr 11. Lawrence was referee, and his rulings wen* strictly carried out by the players, but a section of the public took, undue exception to some of them, ami it is advisable that they should accquaint themselves with the rules before passing judgment on them. RIVALS 11. 21, V. KOHINOOR 11. 5. The above game was played at the Recreation Ground, and proved a fine game. As anticipated the Rivals proved too superior for the green amt blacks. From the kick off, Rivals pressed for the first ten minutes, Kohiiioor being compelled to force. From the drop-out, Leitch broke away, only to be checked by the blacks. From a free kick, Giffney hud a shot, which fell short. Almost immediately another kick was awarded the Kohinoors Morris-ey also failing. Resuming, Rivals got going and some line passing took place, Kohinoor being pressed for a time, and Leitch relieved with a long kick. Brislane, with a heady piece of play, fairly left the greens wondering, and by clever side-stepping and dummy passing he was the means of Rivals scoring. McCabe placed the ball between the sticks. Rivals 5, Kohinoor 0. On resuming, Kohinoor pressed for a time, and Reid, securing, dashed over near the corner, Gill’ney being successful with the kick from a most difficult angle. Rivals 5, Kohinoor 5-Half-time sounded shortly afterwards. On resuming, Rivals set their backs in motion, and securing from a serum, one of the Rivals crossed the line, G. McGirr being equal to the kick at goal. From this out. Rivals had the upper hand to call of time, and added to their score by good passing ami goal kicking. McCabe added 3 goals, Brislane a. try. and a drop kicked goal from just inside half way. - Mr J. Thomas bad charge of the match. ROA 11. 4 V. BLACKBALL 11. 4. Flaying at Blackball on Saturday, the above teams played a hard fought draw, in -which neither side scored the line, the scores being made up by goals, Dando landed two for Roa, and Stenhouse landed the same for Blackball. Mr Lawrence was referee. BLACKBALL (21) v. KOHINOOR (0). I’rior to the senior game, the Blackball third graders succeeded easily, in defeating Kohinoor by 21 points to nil, the Blackball boys, showing to more advantage right through the game and their handling of the ball being a feature.
