FIGHTING OUTSIDE DUBLIN. FREE STATE ENCIRCLING MOVE. [A. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Rec. July 8, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 8. The Nationalists have dislodged the rebels from all their strongholds at Boyle, after three days fighting. Over one thousand Free Staters arc now engaged in encircling Dublin hills. They then advanced from six points. They are well equipped with machine guns and bombs. From the first contact, the Irregulars began inpidly to retreat in the direction of Blessingtoai, many abandoning their arms. Whether Air De Valera is ;.t Wessington is not clear. Air Austin Stick is reported to be with Air, De Valera, in charge of a rebel column. REPUBLICANS’ RESISTANCE. REPORTED FROM SEVERAL LONDON. July 7. Two thousand Free State (Nationalist) troops, sent an ultimatum demanding the surrender at Skegghouse of the local Irregulars. The Free Staters then attacked the Irregulars. The place is near Londonderry. A heavy rifle and machine gun fire began, and the fight is now continuing. Republicans are in possession of the military ami the police barracks of Waterford city, where goods and provisions are being seized, and cars commandeered. Hotelkeepers have been compelled to provide accommodation for Republicans gratis. The “Daily Chronicle’s’’ Dublin correspondent stales that the Free State troops have opened a series of campaigns .‘gainst rebels outside Dublin city. They arc rounding up small bands in remote districts, whence they had conducted looting raids.
