HOKITIKA NOTES.

(Our Oxen Correspondent.) The settlers nt Brnct' Bay, South Westland, report that native* pigeons are : t present very plentiful in that locality. The birds are at present feeding on the cracker berries. Air A. Cameron, formerly manager of the Arahura Dairy Factory, is at [‘resent spending a holiday in toxvn. Mrs A. A. Breeze returned home by last Saturday evening’s express after rn extended holiday in Wellington. The many friends of Aliss Mary Dub’, xvho has been an inmate of the Westland Hospital for the last few xvi'eks, suffering from a very severe illness, will be pleased to hear that she is progressing satisfactorily ami will short jy be able to leave tlx* institution. The local linesman, Mr T. Hanrahan, together xvith his assistant, Mr H. Harvey, has returned from the far south, xvhere they have been carrying out ex tensive repairs to the southern line. The Alananui Al ill, xvhidi reci'nlly closed down, recommenced cutting yesterday. The plant is only being worked single handed for Hit* time being. Of these 10 are closed doxvn, 6 are working single handed, and three full handeil. Quite a number of erstxvhile timber workers have gone rabbit trapping in the Kokatahi district.
