The game was hard throughout, though lacking the brilliancy and U ~-n-ness ness of Saturday’s match. The rever sal of form is due primarily to the vast improvement of N.S.W's. forwards, who benefited considerably by the inclusion of Davis, Fvwles, and Smith, who played trout row through. X< Zealand occupying similar posit "n ; - The Maoris were severely handi<n|iped by injury to Jacobs’s knee. Malm was also injure I. WESTLAND GAMES. The Westland Rugby fixtures wer* decided on Saturday in spite of the wot weather and heavy ground. Messrs Svenson and Goodall, Bullei ’s fenresvit'. kt • vch in the South Island football term, left Westport yesterday morning for Wellington. LEAGUE FOOTBALL. As showing the keenness of U’O competition for the Pollard Cup, t’.‘ position as summarised is’ somewhat interesting. The Blackball team is at present leading with seven points and four games to play. In the event of that team losing all matches ami Waiuta defeating Runanga, and likewise Kohinoor defeating all the respective teams, it would then mean a play off between Runanga ami Kohinoor with I<* points each. 'Phis is Kohinoor’s only show of being in the final. However this team can somewhat alter the situation as in the event of Blackball defeating Runanga and Kohinoor in their respective games, and losing to Waiuta. 'Phis will make Blackball 1.3 points. Should Waiuta win all matches from now on they will have scored 13 points also, making a play off necessary. Should the Runanga team win all matches they can win the cup outright with 14 points. While on the other hand if Blackball win all their games they will have won the cup with a to.al of 15 points. The remaining matches in the senior competition wiil be watched with interest by followers of the game and some of the finest exhibitions can be looked forward to. It has now advanced to such a stage when all teams find that training is more essential to enable them to maintain their respective positions in the cup, ami it goes without saying that the competition is undoubtedly the keenest in the short history of the League game on the Coast. LEAGUE MAORIS BADLY BEATEN SYDNEY, June 26. (Rec. June 26, 10.15.) The Maori League footballers played Metropolitan ns a curtain-raiser to the match Kangaroos versus Australasian.
