Things are reported to have been very quiet last night and to-day. The damage is not at all serious. A DESERTED VILLAGE. ROTORUA, June 22. A special reporter visited Wairakei, Tau]->. Oruanui, and Whiruru Valley. Ornanui is almost deserted, and the whole -t the working Maori mill hands have left for Mukai. The earth in (hn.inr.i valley is full of small vertical lissures. Though the country formation i.- friable pumice agglomerate, an impounding dam is not affected. Shocks in the \ alley arc very severe and are accompanied by alarming sounds. Though much apprehension is felt, no damage has been done, save that a few buttles and crockery have been broken. The scat of the trouble is felt to be on :he Wairakei-Oruanui line. Tho lake is low through lack of rain and no snow water. The net results, save hint p.urves are merely negligible. Small, unimportant subsidences are reported at the western arm of the lake, but nothing of magnitude that would justify the use of the word earthquake.
