CENTRALISATION.
A REACTIONARY MOVE. WELLINGTON, June 6. One of the steps in the Government, economy campaign is the concentration of capital expenditure in the hands of the Public Works Department. This is a reversion to the practice of former years, and is expected to reduce appreciably State expenses .Several Departments have had the spending of money on various works, and there has been overlapping. All departments requiring capital expenditure will now make their recommendations to the Minister of Public Works, and his sanction will be required before the money «an be spent.
