CHEAPER POSTAGE.
MELBOURNE, June 4. Mr Oxcnham, referring to a statement that letters over a certain weight were carried cheaper in New Zealand than in Australia, explained that the area of the latter country is approximately 30 times as large as that of New Zealand. In any case, it was immaterial, as 95 per cent, of the letters in Australia weighed not more than half an ounce, and only 5 per cant, of the Inland letters were affected.
