DIFFICULTY OVER FINANCE. SYDNEY, May 29. A Hospitals Association deputation asked the Chief Secretary (Air Oakes) fur financial assistance in the direction of some compulsory system. It was suggested that the Government should pay a subsidy of £ for £. A conference of hospital boards decided that in the event of any compulsory system, each district should be allowed tin' right of continuing the voluntary system if it wished. Mr Oakes replied that the department was hard put to cope with the demands, but he promised an investigation to ascertain the ways and means.
