RUGBY UNION AND INVESTMENT. WLELINGGTON. May 25. A prop.nsal io invest some of its funds jn Greymouth Trotting Club debentures w:.s discussed at last meeting of the Xew Zealand Rugby Union. The West ('oast R.F.U. wrote, saying ’hat at its last meeting the matter of the unsatisfactory arrangement under which it had control of the play ing ground at Greymouth was discussed, and it was decided to approach the union on the question. The League was still endeavouring to get the ground. Next season, when the Otira Tunnel was in working order, it was safe to predict that the League would bo arranging many matches with teams from the other side of the ranges, and it would be prm-l iually imperative for them to stage these matches on the Trotting Club's grounds, to ensure financial success. At present the finances of the Trotting Club are at a low ebb, and we understand they intend shortly to endeavour to raise a loan of £20,000, to enable them to carry out improvements. Our idea is that if the New Zealand Union can see its way clear to invest, say, £2OOO in Trotting Club debentures, we would be on the main road to gaining sole control of their playing grounds. You therefore can readily understand, if this was to come to pass, it would mean the League’s death-blow, as far as the Coast is conccriied. The only other field available for them in Greymouth is the Grey Recreation Reserve, and they are not al lowed to make a charge on this ground. On the motion of Air E. P. Wylie, it was decided to :sk the Greymouth Rugby Football Union for a definite proposal before giving the matter considei at ion.
