An inquest was held at Hokitika re the death of .lames Smeaton who passed away suddenly in Revell Street. Mr D. .1. Evans, District Coroner, presided. Evidence was given by Dr J. Bruce Baird, Constable McNaulty, Messrs D. Clark and E. C. Toohey, showing the deceased entered Toohey's shop for the purpose of arranging to take a gate at the sports meeting yesterday. Mr Toohey had addressied Smeaton, who suddenly collapsed without replying. He was caught in his f: 11, and laid on his back. Medical aid was summoned and the police called.
