BASIC WAGE QUESTION.
CRUX IN NEW SOUTH WALES. (deceived May IS, II p.m. i SYDNEY, May 18. The Industrial Court has declined to grant the application of the master bakers for a reduction in bread carters’ wages in consequence of the recent Board of T’rade could only ifiake one <!<'- basic wage. The court has referred Uie matter to the Full Court for argument on a. point submitted by the unions re present at ive. This point is that the Board of T’rade could only make on de ciarat'on yearly, and that therefore th-' last declaration was ultra vires, and could not be enforced. It is estimated that the last two reductions in the basic wage will result in a saving of £1,060,000 annually from the wages of publie. servants.
