RECENT REPORTS DENIED. CONDITIONS AS BAD AS EVER. CHRISTCHURCH, Alay IS. A cablegram appeared on the 16th inst., in which it was stated that the Russian famine crisis was over. For the confirmation or otherwise of this statenvent Air W. 11. Rose (('hairman of the Save the Children Fund) sent the fallowing cablegram to the London committee: —‘‘London press association telegram announces that Russian crisis is over. Reply immediately." To-day he received a reply from I.ord Wcardale, which reads: —“Statement absolutely untrue. Sir Benjamin Robertson says famine conditions must remain until harvest is gathered. Even if harvest is successful considerable distress will still remain. If harvest is a failure the pres-ontion position will still obtain. Famine conditions are spreading in Russia and all other statements however circumstantial are pure fabrication.
