The funeral of the jockey Len Hagerty, who died at Westport last week, took place on Monday, the procession to the Riccarton Church Cemetery being a very lengthy one. The three-year-old filly Left, a sister to Nones and Menelaus, has been showing fair form in the North Island lately and she may win a race before long. Several of the leading trotting clubs in Australia have recently adopted the policy of including two mile races on their programmes. This will enable Australian performers to qualify for the big stakes offered ill New Zealand, many of which are restricted to horses that accomplished a certain time over two miles.

Mr G. D. Greenwood has not nominated any of his team for the minor events at the Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting. This probably nieniis that the Canterbury owner will dr Jis Easter racing at Riccarton, though u::ie of his horses are engaged in the lending handicaps at Ellerslie. A northern writer is responsible for the statement that the publication of a name of a prominent sportsman in the official calendar of the New Zealand Racing Conference will probably be the ground for a civil action shortly. Starland, Mangamahoe, Blue Cross and Bezant are four recruits from flat

racing which appear among the nominations for the Brighton Hurdle Handicap at the Auckland Racing .Club’s autumn meeting.

There seems to be no dearth of jumping horses in Auckland at present, foi the Brighton Hurdle Handicap, to be decided at the autumn meeting of the Auckland Racing Club, has drawn a nomination of 32. The Autumn Steeplechase to be decided at Ellerslie next month, has attracted 25 nominations, a response which amply justifies the action of the Auckland Racing Club Committee in restricting the race to hacks.
