A JOCKEY’S CASE.
DECISION AGAINST ASSOCIATION AUCKLAND, Jan 17. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Mr Wilson, S.M., delivered judgment for the defendant jockey George Young, in a claim by the Jockeys’ Association for £4l/3/9, being the annual fee and a percentage of defendant’s earnings by riding winners, the plea of infancy being upheld. The Magistrate held that though defendant was benefited by membership of the Association, it could not te be said that membership was necessary to defendant for earning his livelihood. The only contracts to which an infant could be held were such contracts which were necessary for life, food, clothing, lodging, marriage, and apprenticeship of service. Security for an appeal was fixed at £l5.
