A London cable records the death of Dr. John Brown, a leading Congregationalist minister. ■ The name of Master Paul Fogarty, son of Mr. M. J. Fogarty, of Greymouth, appears on the Auckland list of succesful candidates in the matriculation examination. Master Fogarty, who is only 15 years of age, and a pupil of Sacred Heart College, Auckland, is to be congratulated on his , brilliant- success for one so young. | Miss Eileen Davis, of the Greymouth Convent School, won a prize in the Irish History competitions conducted by the “New Zealand Tablet.” The Rev. John Dawson, of Wellington, arrived by last evening’s express. Mr A. Blair has received word that his daughter, Jessie, has passed her . final examination in nursing. Mr W. IL Parfitt has been appointed a member of the Grey High School Board of Governors. The local Marist Bros. School is to be again in charge of the Rev. Brother Herbert, who is to be assisted by the Rev. Brothers Ernand and Henrick, the latter replacing the Rev. Brother Luke, who is transferred to Wellington.

Mr Vernon Southerly, of Nelson, was married at St. Patrick's Church yesterday morning to Miss Margaret Agnes O 'Donnell, of Brunnerton. The bridesmaid was Miss Mary O’Donnell, sister of the bride. Mr J. C. Harrison acted as best man. After the ceremony at which the Rev. Father Shore officiated, a wedding breakfast was held at Everybody’s Tea Rooms, which were tastefully decorated for the occasion. Both bride and groom are members of the teaching profession. The Very Rev. Father O’Connell, S.M., of Wanganui, has been transferred to St. Mary’s, Manchester Street, Christchurch, as parish prjest, Dean Regnault’s health requiring relief from administrative duties. Dean Regnault will remain as assistant priest. The death took place at Auckland on Saturday of Mr David B. Young,] aged 82 years. Deceased had resided in Westport for 16 years and had been connected with mining interests in ; Rcefton, where he resided for nearly 30 years. The death occurred at Spreydon last week of Mr Benjamin Rhodes, a well-known resident of the West Coast, who resided for many years at Blackwater and then at Reef ton.
