GENERAL NOTES

(By "Cambrian.")

I havo been -asked by Mr. F. G. Lynch (trainer for Mr. H. W. Kitchingham, Greymouth), to contradict a paragraph which appeared in yesterday's issue of our Hokitika Notes, in which it was stated that Mr. Diedrich's mare Maryhill had been leased to Mr. J. Robertson and Mr. Lynch. This is totally incorrect. Mr. Diodrich has engaged Mr. Robertson to train his marc for her "forthcoming engagements and he has retained Mr. Lynch to ride or drive Maryhill in any of the events in -which Mr. Kitchingham.'s representatives do not compete. In fairness to Mr. Lynch, I would point out that undor the rules of trotting Mr. Lynch would be placed in an jvwkward position were he to have any interest in Maryhill whilst at the same time training for Mr, Kitchingham. The following horses, in charge of Ted Kingham, arrived by last night's Orira train: Strayshot, Puusyfoot, Mystified, Tiramga. * Kingham will proceed to Hokitika by this morning's train. Prior to the start of the Beach Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday, Chid collided with Paul Dnf ault, whose sulky was so seriously damaged that he could not take any part in the race. The stewards decided to refund the totalisator investment, but in this they were overruled by the Government inspectors, who insisted on the whole of the money being distributed in dividends. Soon after the start of the 3> T avewell Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday Hayseed fell, Ariadne coming down on him. E C. McDormott, the rider of Hayseed, received some nasty cuts on liis head, Avhile L. Frost, the rider of Ariadne, was severely shaken. The well-known trainer, M. Edwards, is in bad health at present, and A. Hendrickson drove his horse at the New Brighton Trotting Club's meeting last week. Mr. H. W. Kitchingham sold Makomako on Saturday to Mr. A. Finlayson, and he has gone into B. Jarden's stable. Shortly after his purchase he represented his new owner in the Avon Handicap and registered a good performance by finishing second to Hayseed. The field for the Summer Handicap, at New Brighton on Saturday, included three candidates for the Great Northern Trotting Derby, to be decided at. the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting this month. Sir Henry and Tarairc shaped well, filling the places hehind Lindetta. The other Derby colt; Copa. de Oro Junior, Avas well placed in the early stages, but faded out before half the journey had been covered. He has not properly recovered from the effects of an attack of strangles and it has been decided not to send him to Auckland. For talking to a spectator after go : ing on to the track with Capriccio f or the Waim;airi Handicap, at New Brighton; on Saturday, E. C. McDermott was fined £2 and a similar fine was imposed on the man 'with Avhom he conversed.
