COOK BEATS LLOYD.

On Friday night last at Wellington George Cook (Australia) defeated Al Lloyd (Australia) for the Heavyweight Championship of Australasia. There was a huge crowd at the fight. The takings being somewhere iv the vicinity of £500. Tho fight went tho full distance (15 rounds) and Cook was declared the winner on points. He forced the fight and Lloyd was not slow in responding. The result was a very interesting contest and though. Cook was adjudged the winner he haft! to exert all his powers to prevent T.loyd from gaining the upper "li nnd. On Saturday there was an interesting, development concerning the fight. Robert Reginald Eyre, of Sydney, filing a motion in the Supreme Court, seeking an injunction to restrain Cook from fighting. Brian McClcary, amateur heavyweight champion boxer of Australasia, returned to Christchurch recently and was welcomed by the Marist Old Boys' Football Club, of which he is a prominent member. Despite several offers he has intimated that he will not turn professional.
