PEOPLE AFRAID TO SPEAK.
FOR FEAR OF REPRISALS.
(Rec. December 19, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, December IS. A correspondent at Cork reports to the press that « thare is a great stumbling block to the military enquiry into the fire outrages Avhich" is opening on Saturday at Cork. This is the difficulty of getting tho civilians called as witnesses to come forward. It is owing to the intimidation and suspicion. Ireland, he says, is a kind of whispering gallery, and Cork city is one of its most secret comers.
