OVER HALF A MILLION.
THE PROBLEM GROWING. (Rec. December 16, 8.35 p.m.; LONDON, December 16. The problem of unemployment in Britain is growing increasingly difficult, i Ther*e are now 250,189 ex-service men out of woTk. The total of men, women and boys idle is over half a million. Tho Executive of the Labour Party decided that the present scandal of the starving of innocent people cannot be allowed to continue. They point out that any person for w n om there is no wofk available is entitled to a maintenance amount of at least 30/- weekly for .men and 25/- for women, with additional allowance for dependents. They demand that*imtil a better provision for unemployment is made, a scheme should be directly provided for by the Government.
