Soprano went half a mile on his own on Tuesday pulling very hard. I le caught the eye on account of his style and condition.

During the last few days the fire blight is reported to have spread very extensively in the orchards of Auckland province. The destruction of the whole of the pip-fruit crop this year is feared by the orchardists. Till Monday last there was no sign of the pest in the- commercial orchards, but since flhen it has -spread in an alarming way. .•
