This match was played at Blackball yesterday afternoon before th e largest crowd ever see n in Blackball, people coming from a j2 ov€r the Qrey v . a lley. ln e Coast team put up a very good performance and it was only the superior knowledge of the game by Canterbury that won the game. The> passing of both sides at intervals was good, the Canterbury backs especially, holding tlie greasy hall very effectively. The Coast team won the toss, and Canterbury kicked off with the sun in their faces. Immediately the Ooast team attacked and took pay to the opposing 1 goal where a scrum ensued Canterbury being relieved by Rowe who returned to half-way. From the scrum the Coast team got the ball and a eood passing rush, in which nearly a l .! the backs handled, ended in Keller being grassed about a foot from the line. The Canterburv team then startd a rush in which Rowe. Gregory. Kruise and Malloy participated, the ball going from one end of the field to the other. Goodman got possession and centered, and Gregory taking it on the full rnced over. The kick by Rowe failed. Canterbury 3; Coast 0. From t»e kick out the Coast team carried play to Canterbury 25 where Rowe. who was playing a fine game, returned to half way. From the ensuing scrum the visiting backs got going and after a good passing bout. Kruise scored a'ongside the posts. Gregor v converted, making th«* scores 8 to nil. Half-time sounds shortly afterwards. Oh resuming the Canterbury team were striving to open up the game, but the greasy nature of the ball prevented good plav. Shortly after the whistle sounded full time, leaving the visitors the winner of one of the best games of' football seen for many a day. Mr Nissen controlled the game and gave general satisfaction.
