General Togrct will be felt at the announcement of the death, after a somewhat prolonged struggle with the effects • of influenza of Mrs Violet Catherine Downes, wife of the late Robert Leslie Downes, who, until he succumbed about three weeks ago to

the same ailment, had held the position of statioumaster uc Otira. Tlie case is another of the many sad instances, so numerous during the present visitation, where husband .ami wife have been taken oil together, and i'or the rcatives uf the late Mr and Mrs Downes, West Coasters generally will feel deep sympathy.
