COPENHAGEN, December «•; \ message from Berlin states tha* at a meeting of soldiers just back from the front, the soldiers announced that the Executive Committee of the Berlin Soviet had .be<fti arrested. ;A procession was thereupon organised and a demonstration was made before the Chancellory, demanding a republic and tbat Chancellor Ebert . be made the first President. . Her Ebart, an being asked n ne would agree thereto, replied that he must first confer with the Government. He denounced the arrest of the Soviet Committee,* "and declared that the Government are not re-spon-sible. Therefore the committee must be released immediately. . Subsequently, owing to the demonstrators not dispersing, soldiers turned on a machine-gun. General firing ensued and sixteen were killed and fifteen wounded^
