Up to midnight the nominations for the forthcoming o'ect.ions on the ,14th instant, showed the position to bo that in over one-sixth of the scats thore will be no .contests.
The 'number of candidates^ to be returned unopposed totals 107. Of these «iS are Coalitionists, an.<l this number -is made up of 41 Union-, ists and 27 Liberals^ j _ Others returned unopposed are \27 Sinn Fein candidates 11 Labourites, and one Irish Nationalist. . /■ The number of candidates isj a record. There are SSO Coalition?ts. Of these 125 are Liberals and Unionists. -
There arc 10 Labour and Independent Coalitionists. • .
. The Liberals opposing the Coalition total 2^o, as against 125 supporting itThere are 400 Labour candidates. Among .these are nominees by the returned, so'diers.
There are 14 women candidates
Numerous triangular contests occur. Of the Irish seat*, 105 are being contested. There are 87 Sinn Fein candidates, 57 Nationalists and 38 Unionists. ' ; ■
Mr Bernard Shaw, the well-known writer, is a candidate i'or Middlesboro.
