"ONE BIG UNION." SEAMEN'S FEDERATION PROPOSAL. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 5 The ballot of the Federated Seamen's Union of New Zealand resulted in favour of forming the branches at Wellington, Auckland and Dunedin into one big union, which will affiliate with the Transport Workers ' Advisory Board and the New Zealand Labour Party. The voting as for one big union was 966 against 141, and for affiliating with the Transport Workers' Board was 861 against 220, and for affiliating with the Labour Party 871 against 212. MARINE ENGINEERS WAGES. (Received December 5 7, p.m.) MELBOURNE December 5. The Arbitration Court has given its' award in the claim of the Australian Institute of Marine Engineers, against the Shipping Companies. The Court has awarded wages ranging as follows:—Chief engineers £23 to £42 per month, Second engineers £21 to £28 per month, third engineers £19 to £24; fourth £16 10s to £21; fifth engineers £15 10s. The overtimes are according to the steamers horsepower. I.W.W. MEN'S DEFENDER. JUDD CONVICTED UNDER WAR REGULATIONS. (Rec. .December 5, 11.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 5 Judd, who has taken a leading part in the movement to secure a re-trial for the I.W.W. prisoners, and who was himself proceeded against under the War Regulations, has been found guilty on two counts of breach of the War Precautions Act and of making statements prejudicial to recruiting. Judgment has been suspended. Bail has been refused.
