PATRIOTIC RELIEF

GREY PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.

The usual weekly meeting of the above was held yesterday. Piesent: His Worship the Mayor, Mr. J. D. Lyneli (chair), Messrs. J. M'Lean, D. Tennent, and W. R. Kettle. Arising out of the minutes, the Chairman reported having advanced £2 to a returned, soldier, "to whom hp was empowered at the last, meeting to make an advance if .necessary.From' Mrs. Janie Seddon, conveying her heartfelt thanks Jor Assoicaticn's letter I 'of sympathy- in connection with the death* of Captain Seddon. — Received. From Hon. Secretary, Te Waikati Sanatorium Committee, appealiug for donations to assist ' the soldiers receiving treatment there to provide competitions, in order to make their lives more cheerful, tliey being in as isolated locality; also forwarding a list of soldiers from this district receiving treatment there. Mr. Tennent was of opinion that this was a case which called for support. The Mayor concurred, and it was moved by Mr. M'Lean, and seconded by Mr. Tennant, that a grant of £5 be made.' — Carried. From Canterbury Patriotic Fund, acknowledging receipt of the Association's letter in connection with- an unsatisfactory case, wherein assistance was declined, and stating that as the person wa.s destitute, they had advanced a sniall sum, and trusted that under the circumstances the Association would refund. It was moved by Mr. Tennent, and seconded by Mr. Kettle, that vhe Canterbury Association be reimbursed to the -extent of the allowance made. — Carried. From Auckland Patriotic Association, declining assistance to an application made through the Association, and stating that' the case was not at all satisfactory. The Secretary reported that as th«j man was going to work in the country, he had purchased some necessaries for him. The Secretary's action was approved, on the motion of Mr. Tennent, seconded by Mr. Kettle. From the wife of a returned soldier, making application for financial assistance. It was moved by Mr, M'Lean. and seconded by Mr. Kettle, that the apnl ieat ion be referred to v the Blackball Committee for report.— Carried. The financial position of the Association was gone into, and it was ultimately moved by Mr. Kettle that the 1 Mayor be asked to approach the Copper Trail Committee for a further grant, of £150. Seconded by Mr. Tennent ancl carried. From Discharged Soldier^' Employment Committee, reporting result of recent meeting. — Received. The meeting concluded with the usual! vote pf thanks to thr -hair.
