- -*■ : — KAUANGAROA TRAGEDY BENNIER CHARGED WITH MURDER. WANGANUI, October is. Frank Edward Bonnier was charged ta the Magistrate's Court to-day with, the murder of Ethel Emma Bennier, his wife. Five other charges of attempted murder were preferred against accused in connection with the Kauangaroa tragedy. The evidence was ' much on the lines of that given at the inquest. A new fact elicited went to show that the strained relations betweeu tho accused and deceased were due to the former's drinking habit. Sergt. Bourke said that on one occasion Bennier, when slightly under 1 the influence of liquor, had called at ] the Police Station to ask for police assistance to make his wife return to him. Witness said that the police could not- interfere, and Bennier threatened "to do for her and also himself. ' ' Accused was committed for trial at the Supreme Court. He was also comitted for >rial on the charges of the attempted jnurcler of the other victims.
