ST. JOHN'S DAFFODIL SHOW.

The second daffodil show in. connection with St. John's Horticultural Society takes place on' Wednesday next in the Church HalL£^ Everything £t present points to a "Ifnost successful show, both in quality and quantity of exhibits, many gro.Wers having fied their intention of competing. At the first daffodil show held ay car.ago, the horticultural possibilities of Greymouth were demonstrated so amply that a number; of those who possessed 'guldens mfeide up ; their- minds' to ' tyr'n their attention*, to bulb growings md the results of their first year ?s work will, be in evidence at the show. The cQmmittee has secured the services of Jtr. A. Bradbury, of Christchurch, who will act as "judge, in the horticultural sections, and is a man of wide experience among flowers. He is offering prizes for the - special classes comprised, infection : 82. Mr. Bradbury intends bringing a quantity of spripg flowers with him "for exhibition and this is bound to create wide interest, and will repay inspection. Mr. P. Blanchfield, whose firm was so successful at the recent Christchurch cookery exhibition will adjudicate in the cookery section. The Flower Queen competition has , produced eleven fair ' contestants, all of whom are busily' working . for the place of honour-rand' the doll dressed as a bride which is being given as the prize. The second count takes place this . morning and..the.position of tire competitors will be indicated by flags, flown from Mr. Schroder's Hotel in. Tainui Street..* The crowning ceremony, is to take place, at 3.30 p.m. at. the show, and after ihe queen is to entertain her court at supper. T*he attention of exhibitors is drawn to the schedule which appears on page 2 of this issue, fromi which it, will be .noted that an important teration! has been, made in classes 2 to 7of Section; A, where the number of spikes of the. different varieties called for has been reduced from three to on, except in Class 7> where the number has, been reduced from three to two. . With reference to the. prizes, the committee decided, to award. 7/6 for' the prize loaf of white bread; ,5A for the fruit cake; 5/- for the champion daffodil, and 2/6 in" every other class. The prizes will- be paid in cash at tht? secretary's table as soon as the judges have made their- awards.. It is intended to" have an exhibitipn o of curios sent from, soldiers at the front to. their friends and relatives in Greymouth, and this should be largely patronised and most interesting. Refreshments will be available at the show, where an, energetic .staff will< be in charge. The Ladies' Guild will have a stall for the sale of household and others useful and ornamental wares^ There .will also be a flower stall and for the children a fishpond containing such, things, as delight tha. child's h, 3art.
