FOUR POWERFUL ATTACKS.
J ALL SUCCESSFULLY REPULSED. ENEMY LOSES HEAVILY. ("Reutar's Telegrams"), (Rec. May 16, 9 p.m.) LONDON, May 16. Field-Marshal' Sir Douglas Haig reports: Further details of the lighting this morning show that the enemy 'de- ■ liberately attempted by four strong concerted attacks, powerfully supported by artillery, to drive us out of Bullecourt and the section of tho Hindenburg line eastward of the village. The first attack temporarily gained a foothold in our trenches on the. right flank of the position of the Hindenburg line. Our counter-attack immediately ejected the enemy, who left 240 killed or wounded. The artillery dispersed simultaneously an attack on the left flank and we repulsed a third attack on the north-eastern corner of Bulleeourt. The fourth attack delivered from the south and south-east drove back our posts on the western portion of the village 100 yards. The enemy's losses were heavy. Hostile artillery fire is heavy on the Scarpe.
